Topless in Myrtle Beach
No, you wont see any pictures of Judy or I. This title reflects how we have had to leave the boat as it will still be hurricane season for the next two months. Prudent preparation to leave the boat means removing the bridge enclosure canvas. It needed a good cleaning anyway, so a mornings work was well invested.
We departed Cape Fear and came direct to Myrtle Beach. This gave us a couple of days here to explore the area a bit before Doug had to return home. MB is a real vacation community, with apparently over 60 miles of beaches in the area, and supposedly 100+ golf courses. Oh yeah, it is a very family oriented vacation place as lots of mini-golf, attractions, and family-friendly restaurants.
The marina we have left the boat at is the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club, which fortunately has an excellent pool as it continued to be hot. Our first day we just relaxed by the pool, explored the local area on foot, and attended to a few cleaning projects. With a rental car the next day, we had a chance to explore the wider area.
One of MB's biggest claims to fame is the largest Ferris wheel on the east coast. This is right in the heart of tourist area of course, and there is a very nice boardwalk along the beach, if one could stand the heat.
We did enjoy the beach one afternoon so Doug could finally have a chance to get a real swim in the Atlantic, after the brief dips prior. Doug departed Sunday, and we started decommissioning the boat to sit idle for the next couple of months. Mainly that means cleaning things out well, but also defrosting fridges and freezer, as well as the fore mentioned bridge enclosure removal.
We combined morning work with afternoon sight-seeing/shopping, and generally relaxing in preparation of the trip home.
It has been quite the 5 weeks weather wise. Not a drop of rain. Two weather days for wind, but otherwise clear skies, but hotter than we expected, and apparently hotter than usual, for this time of year.
We will be back to the boat late November, to continue south for the winter, so if you haven't signed up as a follower to get email notification of new blog posts, look for one end of November.
For us, next stop Vienna.
